MARCO de Comunicación, the leading communications and PR agency in Europe and Latin America with its head office in Spain, was last night named Iberian Consultancy of the Year by an elite panel of over 60 senior industry professionals at the SABRE EMEA Awards in London. It was also shortlisted for three other awards with clients Danone, Conforama and the World Water Council (WWC). The 2019 SABRE EMEA Consultancies of the Year Awards recognise exceptional agencies in the region, while the other award categories include around 400 campaigns from across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, highlighting superior achievement in branding, reputation and engagement.

Being named Consultancy of the Year comes only a day after Didier Lagae, the agency’s CEO and founder, won the Best PR Professional of the Year at the PRWeek Awards, also held in London, whilst MARCO made the top 3 agencies, further consolidating MARCO as the most awarded and best valued agency. This, combined with a growth in revenue of more than 20% in 2018 and the acquisition of the leading business magazine Ejecutivos, pays testament to MARCO’s impressive upwards trajectory. Consistent growth has been matched by its expansion into Latin America with the opening of offices in Bogota, Lima and Mexico City, increasing MARCO’s total number of offices to 10 across 4 continents, as the agency now counts on more than 130 consultants from 18 different nationalities.

MARCO’s success has seen it solidify its status as a key opinion leader in country brand building, with the publication of the book, Country Brand, a Branded Country by Lagae, which has propelled the international reputation of the company. Meanwhile, MARCO continues in its commitment to the environment, collaborating with The Climate Reality Project, through which Lagae has been named a Climate Leader, and through its work with a growing portfolio of clients who are also ready to put sustainability and the fight against climate change first.

One such client is the WWC, and it is with this campaign that MARCO was shortlisted at the SABRE EMEA Awards. The campaign used the occasion of World Water Day to position the WWC as the global authority on water security and resources. MARCO built the event’s stand at the World Water Forum in Brasilia with a design that was conceived around the WWC’s values of sustainable development and international cooperation for water security. It was made of 100% recyclable materials and included projected images and interactive spaces to attract attendees and encourage participation and this had the desired effect as the stand welcomed an average of 5,000 passers-by over the six-day event, who were able to discover the key messages of the WWC.

The nominated campaign for Danone was based on the creative concept of #DanoneMoments that pitched Danone as both a longstanding, trusted household brand, as well as an innovator in the sector, with trendy new ranges. MARCO’s vision combined strong storytelling with bold actions, such as a cooking masterclass with Saúl Craviotto, winner of celebrity MasterChef. This helped turn the stand into an interactive space that invited engagement with the campaign and made Danone a centrepiece of Alimentaria 2018, one of the biggest food, drink and gastronomy fairs in Spain.

Lastly, the campaign for homeware retailer Conforama, #HomeModeON, presented the Autumn-Winter collection by transmitting the unique comfort we feel when arriving home, and reached more than 20 million people through online engagement.

In response to winning Consultancy of the Year, Lagae said: “Being recognised with this accolade continues to spur us on to achieve more in 2019 and is just reward for the hard work and creativity of our dedicated team. Congratulations also to our clients Danone, World Water Council and Conforama for making the finals with MARCO. We’d like to thank our clients for their collaboration, without which our work wouldn’t be possible”.
